ABOUT ME!

Hey guys! It’s me. Yes, Ella. If you’ve read this far already, firstly… fair play, you’re committed.

If you don't know me I'm a magician, creator, professional overthinker, and someone who’s been completely obsessed with magic for as long as I can remember. I grew up as an only child with my dog Sox and super supportive parents who tolerated me turning the house into a testing lab for tricks and chaos.

I’ve always loved entertaining people, being creative, and making ordinary things feel impossible which is probably why I chose a hobby where making things disappear is considered a skill and not a problem.

I actually got into magic during lockdown after finding an old magic kit in my house. What started as me trying not to lose my mind from boredom somehow turned into a full personality trait.

I taught myself through YouTube videos, books, and an unhealthy amount of practicing the same trick over and over until it finally worked. There were a lot of failed tricks… like, concerning amounts.

Eventually, I reached out to magician Eric Leclerc, who somehow saw potential in the chaos and became an incredible mentor. He really pushed me to think creatively and stop just learning tricks and start creating my own.

Since then, magic has taken me to places that honestly younger me would’ve thought were completely made up. I performed on Penn & Teller: Fool Us in Las Vegas in front of thousands of people… and, casually, Penn and Teller. Which still sounds fake when I say it out loud.

I’ve also somehow managed to end up on RTÉ Radio 1, BBC Radio 5 Live, Today FM, Ireland AM, and Virgin Media Television talking about magic which is funny considering I used to get nervous saying "here" for for role call in school.

One thing that’s really important to me is bringing something new into magic. For years, most magic tricks were created by men, for men…

So I love taking old ideas and putting my own spin on them to create tricks that actually feel like me. One of my favourite things I’ve created is a nail polish magic effect where the nailpolish changes colour!

Outside of magic, I’m also slightly obsessed with science, psychology, and creativity. Basically anything that lets me ask ‘wait … why do humans do that?

A lot of my project work has focused on combining magic and psychology to explore how attention, perception, and misdirection affect the way we experience the world around us. Which is a very academic way of saying I scientifically studied how easy it is to fool people.

Through this work, I somehow managed to win a Display Award at the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition, Runner-Up Best Project at SciFest which also secured me a spot in the national final which I then won an Excellence in STEM Award. I also received a special award from the American Psychological Association which honestly feels very funny considering most of my experiments started with me thinking, why are certain people less susceptible to magic and psychology influencing.

I was also lucky enough to audition for and become a member of the Academy of Magical Arts at The Magic Castle, which genuinely still feels insane to say out loud because younger me would’ve probably passed out hearing that sentence.

Outside of live performances, I create videos online and work with brands to make creative magic content which mostly involves me spending hours planning a video for a trick that lasts 12 seconds.

Across social media, I’ve built a community of over 50,000 followers, and my videos have reached millions of views worldwide.

At the end of the day, I just love making people feel a sense of wonder again whether that’s on stage, online, or just in everyday life. There’s something really special about watching someone forget to be cynical for a second and just let their inner child show and just enjoy the moment!
